Parent’s Day at WMS
Parent’s Day was held on Friday, May 24 at the Elementary Campus. The theme of our event was “Heal the World”. The presentation was the closing of a year-long study we shared as a school.
We started the year with concentrating on the amount of trash our school generated on a weekly basis. Then we followed that observation by concentrating on achieving “zero trash”. Each day we checked our snack boxes to see just how many pieces of trash each snack box held; until the day that all students could boost of “zero trash.”
Our study then took us through recycling, reusing and food waste. Through exploration and research each classroom came to discoveries. We explored deforestation, landfills, pollution in the air and sea and animals on the endangered species list.
At last it was time to share our study and present it to our parent’s in the form of a series of reports, timelines, maps, readings, art work and live representations of endangered species. The students dressed as parrots, Bengal tigers, trees from the rainforests, owls, birds, a monkey, a koala, a squirrel, pandas and many others. The students built sculptures of squids, whales, octopi, sharks and turtles.
All materials and supplies we used to create this presentation were recycled materials we had previously used for other projects. We truly wanted this experience to be one that put our words and ideas into action. With a little paint and glue, some creative ideas and hard work, we were ready to present.
The presentation and the day was a tribute and a THANK YOU to our parents for their trust and belief in our work and care for their children, every day at Warsaw Montessori School.
