100 Years of Independence
On 11 November 1918, the dream of generations of Poles came true: the Polish state was reborn. After great uprisings, free Poland was reinstated on the map of the world. The year 2018 marks the jubilee year of the 100th Anniversary of Poland regaining its Independence. The nation emerged victorious from the historical ordeal thanks to those who remained unyielding and the spiritual and everyday endurance of Polish families.
The school was decorated with the colors of Red and White. National symbols of Poland surround the school. The environment, students and teachers were ready to make this day special.
This morning at WMS, the students and teachers gathered together in our sports room. Each classroom gave a presentation on the subject and symbols of Independence Day.
The Transition class gave their presentation on the coat of arms of Poland. They presented each stage of the coat of arm from up to the modern day version.
The English Early elementary class read us a brief history of the fight that led to Independence.
The Bilingual Early Elementary Class- Read and recited for us poems which they wrote to commemorate the occasion.
And lastly, the Upper Elementary class sang for us 3 special patriotic songs; “Białe róże, Szara piechota, My, Pierwsza Brygada”
At 11:11, we all sang the national anthem, “Mazurek Dąbrowskiego”
It was beautiful. After much applause, we all proudly thanked each person for all the work that went in to making the presentation special and memorable.
Enjoy the long weekend by celebrating this joyous jubilee together with the ones you love.
